Former striker Francisco Zaragoza, known as Catalán, looks back on his time at UE Figueres in the 1990s, when he debuted in Segunda División A while working as a manual laborer.

Born in Figueres in 1972, Catalán rose through the ranks of local football to join UE Figueres. By the age of sixteen, he was training with the first team under coach Mané, balancing professional sessions with his job on construction sites alongside his father.

"I had to ask for a day off work to go and play a Second Division match with Figueres."

He made his official debut in September 1989 against Levante. Although he showed great promise, a serious knee injury while playing for Banyoles hampered his career. He eventually moved into the flooring business and now works in local street markets across the Alt Empordà region.
