Three inmates have taken their own lives in Catalonia's prisons during the first weeks of 2026, with two deaths occurring at the Puig de les Basses facility in Figueres.

The Department of Justice confirmed that two suicides took place in Figueres between February and March, while a third occurred in Granollers. Officials stated that two of the individuals were being held in high-security isolation units at the time of their deaths.

"Any suicide in a penitentiary center is a failure."
