The fortress of Figueres has become one of the locations for the filming of 'Tangled', one of the most significant film productions in recent years in Catalonia. The capital of Alt Empordà is hosting the live-action adaptation of Disney's classic Rapunzel story.
After several weeks of filming in Girona's Old Town, where emblematic streets and spaces such as the Cathedral, Carrer dels Manaies, and the Passeig Arqueològic were recreated, the crew is moving to the fortress in Figueres. The Girona scenes included extras in period costumes, carriages, and sets that transformed the city into the kingdom of Corona.
Sant Ferran Castle, with its vast area of 550,000 square meters and architectural diversity, offers multiple possibilities as a film location. The production, whose logistical hub is the Ciutat de la Llum studios in Alicante, plans for eight months of filming in Spain.
The film is directed by Michael Gracey and features a cast led by Teagan Croft as Rapunzel and Milo Manheim as Flynn Rider. Kathryn Hahn and Diego Luna also participate. The release date has not yet been officially announced.
Sant Ferran Castle has a long history as a film set, having hosted productions such as 'Perfume: The Story of a Murderer', 'Tirant lo Blanc', and the series 'Mrs. Davis'.
