Construction began in February 2025 and was completed in October, providing a weather-protected space for local athletes. The upgrade includes a new terrazzo floor, chosen for its durability compared to the previous concrete surface, specifically designed for high-impact skating sports.
The facility is named after the renowned local architect Pelayo Martínez (1898-1978). His daughter, Catalina Martínez, attended the ceremony alongside Sports Councilor Pere Montserrat to unveil a commemorative plaque honoring her father's architectural contribution to the Alt Empordà region.
“"These are two sports that are not the majority in our city, and we are grateful that this facility is dedicated to them."
While primarily serving the Figueres Hockey Club and the Artistic Skating Club, the court also features goals for futsal and handball. The event concluded with a performance by the Xou Petit team, currently ranked fifth in the world in their category.
