The work focused on a stretch of just over 1 kilometer, between the Toribi footbridge and the Sant Pere bridge, covering an area of 7.7 hectares. The main objective was to remove abundant vegetation that could obstruct water flow, as well as eliminate dead trees and excessive branches.
Extensive reed beds were removed and eradicated by uprooting and shredding their rhizomes. Additionally, invasive robinia trees that had grown near the Pont Nou bridge on the left bank of the river were removed.
These works, costing approximately €48,000, were commissioned by the City Council of Castelló d'Empúries with financial support and supervision from the Catalan Water Agency (Agència Catalana de l'Aigua).
In the future, similar work is planned for the stretch of the Muga river between the Sant Pere bridge and the Griells crossing.
