The Vila-sacra City Council has officially inaugurated the gardens and surroundings of the Castell Palau de l'Abat, a space renovated to enhance residents' quality of life and the town's unique character.

The Vila-sacra City Council held the inauguration of the surroundings of the Castell Palau de l'Abat last Saturday. Mayor Maria Corbairan highlighted the changes since 2010, when the building's renovation was completed, now housing the council. However, the surrounding area had remained pending for adaptation until now.
Thanks to a grant from the Pla Únic d’Obres i Serveis de Catalunya (PUOSC) received in 2024, and financial collaboration from the Diputació de Girona, the adaptation of the entire public space has been completed.
The Plaça de l’Abat de Vila-sacra was filled with residents to attend an event the mayor described as historic. The works, which began on November 3, 2022, and concluded in August 2023, represent a qualitative improvement for the town, connecting the urban center with the Mas Moner urbanization.
The event was attended by representatives from the Generalitat and the Diputació de Girona. The delegate for Agriculture, Josep Guix, on behalf of the Government delegate in Girona, Xavier Guitart, recalled the historical importance of the Palau de l'Abat for the introduction of the Figueres onion. Meanwhile, the president of the Diputació de Girona, Miquel Noguer, praised the council's work, emphasizing the need to make the surroundings "more pleasant to enjoy".
Jardineria Martí was responsible for incorporating plant elements into the surroundings, aiming to "recover vegetation and quality of life." Colombian sculptor Duval López also participated in improving the space. Mayor Maria Corbairan concluded that they now have an "orderly space with good parking" that gives the place "unique personality," also remembering the late resident Joan Barceló.
