The rescue operation took place off the coast of l'Escala and involved teams from the Red Cross in Figueres, l’Escala, and la Jonquera, alongside Maritime Rescue (SASEMAR).
SASEMAR mobilized air and sea assets for the drill, notably the Helimer helicopter and the vessel Salvamar Lyra. This activity is part of the regular training sessions carried out throughout the year.
The main objective of the exercise was to reinforce the coordination and response capacity of the teams in the face of possible emergencies at sea, highlighting the importance of preparation and prevention.
The Red Cross used the activity to reaffirm its commitment to maritime safety and collaboration with various emergency organizations. The exercise proceeded smoothly and attracted local interest.
The Red Cross Maritime Rescue base in l’Escala, operational for nearly four years, is a national benchmark. This base typically covers the coastal stretch between Cap Norfeu and Cap Begur during the active season, which runs from April to October.
