The ACA's decision is aimed at regulating volumes and allowing the reservoir to absorb the water that will flow in from the headwaters of rivers such as the Muga and the Arnera, without losing water resources. Currently, the reservoir holds 53.89 hm³ of water, exceeding 85% of its capacity, according to data from Thursday midday.
The outflow from the Darnius-Boadella reservoir is expected to increase by approximately 2 m³/s, up from the current release rate of 0.3 m³/s.
This high reserve situation contrasts sharply with the recent water crisis. In March 2025, the reservoir contained only 11% of its capacity, a historic low that forced severe water restrictions in the Alt Empordà until last spring.
The increase in water release is not exclusive to Darnius-Boadella. It is also planned to increase the outflow from other reservoirs in the internal basins, such as those in the Ter system (Sau-Susqueda), which will go from releasing 3 m³/s to 15 m³/s, and the Foix reservoir, which will increase from 85 to 300 liters per second. The internal basins as a whole are currently above 86% of their capacity.
