This sports initiative, taking place in the Alt Empordà region, will offer a competitive alternative to traditional recreational summer games. The project will organize teams through a random draft system, assigning them individual identities and pitting them against each other over six match days.
The idea for La Trempada originated from informal basketball gatherings among enthusiasts in Vilafant. Inspired by the Palamós Summer League, this first edition in Alt Empordà aspires to establish itself and grow in the future, adapting a similar format.
Matches will be played in a four-on-four format, with each team competing in two games per match day. The six match days are scheduled for Thursday evenings in July and the first week of August, culminating in semifinals and the final in the last week. The rules will be straightforward, with four eight-minute quarters played with a running clock to speed up the games. Initial venues include sports halls in Figueres, Llançà, and Vilafant, with the possibility of expanding the number of locations.
“"We want the teams to be representative of the different towns in the region."
The organization seeks to balance the teams through an in-person draft, dividing players into pools based on their skill level. Each squad is expected to consist of about eight players, ensuring rotation. Among the registered participants, there are players with experience even in the Spanish first division, the ACB.
“"I like unity, more than any animosity that might exist between rival teams."
To foster this connection, the La Trempada team has contacted various basketball clubs in Empordà. Although most registrants are from Figueres and its surroundings, the league aims to attract participants from other towns with a basketball tradition, such as Roses or l'Escala, and also to increase female participation. The project is supported by the Consell Esportiu de l'Alt Empordà, and registrations are open, costing fifty euros, which includes a personalized jersey, insurance, and other benefits.
