Cèlia Garbí Lamich, who has lived in L'Armentera since 1983 and is a History teacher at the Palafrugell institute, led an independent candidacy supported by Esquerra Republicana de Catalunya (ERC) in 2023. With just over a year left in her first term, the government team has several projects underway, with the Pla Únic d'Obres i Serveis de Catalunya (PUOSC) being the most significant.
The PUOSC, which was granted late this year and will be executed in 2027, will allow for the renovation of the sewage system in five points of the town and the paving of two streets. Additionally, this year the multi-sport court will be covered, as the municipality lacks a sufficiently large enclosed space to host events like the Summer Festival in case of bad weather. The plot for the construction of the new school is also being prepared.
“"We lack a proper school, it is a grievance for the town. The condition of the municipality's streets is deplorable and the sewers are very damaged; fixing them is a priority for us."
Improving the sewage system is a priority for the town council, despite it not being a highly visible project, as they consider it a matter of public health. The mayor has pointed out that the state of the streets is an unresolved issue, with asphalt crumbling, and will require another significant subsidy for its comprehensive repair. Last year, the facade of the Casa de la Vila was rehabilitated, an action that has brought satisfaction to the council.
The construction of the new school is currently blocked due to a lack of budget from the Government of the Generalitat. Following the demolition of the old school 15 years ago and the use of temporary classrooms for 12 years, the need for a new infrastructure is urgent. Although the current school functions well and has a good educational team, the situation is seen as a comparative disadvantage compared to other towns. Exceeding one thousand inhabitants has not accelerated the project, as political issues have stalled budget approval.
Other pending issues include the Can Caussa parking lot, next to the church. Economically, the council has managed to reduce debt. Regarding the fight against the Roses Bay Wind Farm, the Plemcat is currently halted, but there are threats with the PLATER, against which allegations will be presented. Local councils have formed a network to act jointly on this matter. Work is also being done on the degradation of the Fluvià river, with meetings and good understanding with the Community of Users of the Lower Fluvià (CUA) to oversee the works. Finally, the Historical Memory project, which has collected over a thousand photographs donated by citizens, has been a success.
