The town council of l'Escala, along with other Mediterranean municipalities, is finalizing the creation of an association to manage the Phocaean Route as a new European Cultural Route.

The initiative seeks to highlight the impact of the polis of Phocaea, a Greek city-state known for its commercial expansion and the foundation of settlements such as Emporion (Empúries) and Massalia (Marseille).

"Its inhabitants feel like heirs to a remote heritage that we want to disseminate and value."
