The Healthcare Assistance Institute (IAS) has launched a new Community Assertive Treatment Team (ETAC) in Alt Emporda to provide specialized care for individuals with severe mental health disorders.

This initiative is the third of its kind in Catalonia, following similar rollouts in Garrotxa and Ripolles. The team focuses on providing intensive treatment within the patient's natural environment, aiming to foster autonomy and reduce the need for hospital emergency services.
The multidisciplinary team includes psychiatrists, nurses, and social workers. They are tasked with managing cases involving high social and health complexity, such as patients struggling with self-care, employment, or housing due to their mental health condition.

"Community assertive treatment is the intervention modality that has achieved the best results, generating a notable benefit for patients and their families."

Jordi Cid · Coordinator of Mental Health and Addiction Network Programs
In 2024, the Alt Emporda Mental Health Center treated 2,448 people. Approximately 20% of these cases are classified as high complexity, requiring the intensive community-based intervention that the new ETAC unit provides.
