The Department of Interior, through the Directorate General of Rural Agents, has approved a new call for 100 new positions to join the Rural Agents Corps in the basic scale agent category (group C, subgroup C1). Of these, 40 are reserved for women with the aim of continuing to correct their underrepresentation in the operational body.
The resolution of the call, published today in the Diari Oficial de la Generalitat de Catalunya (DOGC), will allow interested individuals to submit their applications from Monday, October 19th to Friday, October 30th. Registrations can be made via the website gen.cat/festeagentrural.
To participate in the selection process, applicants must be 18 years old, hold Spanish nationality, possess a baccalaureate or equivalent qualification, have a C1 level of Catalan, and hold a category B driving license. They must also meet the remaining requirements established in the call's bases, including having no criminal record and pledging to carry regulation weapons, including firearms, through a sworn declaration.
The selection process will follow a competitive examination system and consist of four phases: the examination phase (knowledge, aptitude, physical, psychoprofessional, and medical tests), the merit-based phase (evaluation of experience, training, and complementary knowledge), a selective training course at the School of Firefighters, Civil Protection, and Rural Agents (up to 600 hours), and a practical phase (up to 1,000 hours of effective service).
This call is part of the Strategic Plan of the Directorate General of Rural Agents (PEDGAR) 2026-2030, which aims to reach 1,300 personnel to strengthen patrolling, territorial presence, and response capacity to incidents, adapting the corps to the challenges of climate change and environmental protection.
Since November 2023, 55 new agents have joined, and it is expected that 125 and 102 more will join in 2025 and 2026, respectively. Currently, there are 675 personnel, and a new promotion of 126 aspirants began training this September, with 43.7% women.
The Rural Agents Corps, celebrating its 40th anniversary, aims to move towards gender parity, with women currently representing 22%, a figure that has nearly doubled since 2020. The reservation of places and other measures, such as campaigns for female role models and adaptation of physical tests, contribute to this goal.
