Nearly 150 singers over the age of 60 filled the Teatre Municipal el Jardí in Figueres this Sunday for a performance of the cantata A la ciutat.

The concert marked the end of months of preparation within the Canta Gran program. This cultural initiative, which started 25 years ago at the Auditori de Barcelona, has returned to Figueres for the second consecutive year to promote community participation through choral music.

"From one rehearsal to the next, we achieve significant improvements. Seniors are very grateful but also very critical."

Montserrat Roset · Musical director
The piece A la ciutat features music by Carles Prat and lyrics by Stefanie Kremser. The performance included stage movements directed by Fàtima Campos, designed to create a powerful visual effect with such a large group of performers.
Participating groups included Les Veus de l'Estartit and the Polígala Choir from Olot. Local authorities, including Deputy Mayor Carme Martínez, praised the project as a key tool for combating loneliness and ensuring active aging for the elderly.
