The presentation took place in the María Zambrano hall of the Círculo de Bellas Artes de Madrid, where Mayor Jordi Masquef and Culture Councillor Mariona Seguranyes highlighted the work's importance in strengthening Figueres as a cultural destination. This event also promoted the temporary exhibition of La Madona de Portlligat, currently on display at the Teatre-Museu Dalí until February 22.
“"It is an example of institutional collaboration serving heritage and culture, and above all, it is another element reinforcing the cultural and tourist capital status that Figueres holds."
The screen, which belonged to notary Dalí, was painted by the artist when he was 19 years old, around 1923. It is a large piece (over two meters wide) featuring oriental motifs, a blue background, and figures with elongated eyes, including peacocks and insects that recall Dalí's childhood environment in Figueres and Cadaqués.
The work, preserved for decades by the painter's sister, Anna Maria Dalí, in Cadaqués, was finally acquired by the Spanish State for 50,000 euros and deposited at the Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía. Councillor Seguranyes confirmed that the loan is the most significant to date and that the work will arrive in Figueres freshly restored.
