The La Jonquera Town Council and the owners of Requesens Castle are celebrating in 2024 the 125th anniversary of the restoration of this iconic 11th-century fortress in the Albera range.

This ancient structure has survived centuries of feudal disputes. Its current appearance is the result of a renovation started in 1892 by the Count of Peralada, Tomàs de Rocabertí, who transformed it into a summer residence.

"The local economy was diverse, including agricultural holdings and flour and glass industries."

Lluís Serrano · Historian
The castle once interested Salvador Dalí as a gift for Gala. It has also served as a filming location for movies such as The Knight of the Dragon, starring Miguel Bosé, and Perfume: The Story of a Murderer.
Today, the castle remains privately owned and is open for guided tours. Local authorities, including councilor Lluïsa Macias, emphasize the need to preserve and promote this historical jewel.
