The championship, organized by the La Ballena Alegre Sailing Club, concluded on Friday in the Bay of Roses after a week of high-level competition. The event featured decisive races, the Medal Races, and an awards ceremony attended by the Catalan Minister of Sports, Berni Álvarez.
Turkey emerged victorious in the nations' classification, surpassing Italy and Poland, thanks to an excellent performance in the women's categories. Italy led the men's categories, while Spain finished in sixth place.
The event highlighted the growth of IQFoil, a variant of windsurfing featuring a foil that allows the board to 'fly' above the water, increasing speed and reducing wind dependency. Hundreds of young hopefuls competed in race course and slalom events, combining speed, strategy, and adaptation.
The large-scale event required extensive logistical deployment, with nearly a hundred support vessels and the collaboration of the Club Nàutic l'Escala. Weather conditions allowed all competition days to proceed, despite necessary adjustments due to heat and changing winds.
In parallel to the competition, the World Championship emphasized sustainability through the project "Conèixer per preservar" (Know to Preserve), promoted by technical director Pep Subirats. Actions included the release of baby cuttlefish, an inclusive sailing day with the Cruyff Foundation, and the presentation of a butterfly garden in collaboration with UVic.
