Five new festive figures, embodying iconic elements of Roses such as the lighthouse, shrimp, sea snail, grapevine, and wild boar, have been added to the municipality's cultural heritage. These 'capgrossos' are the result of the creativity of fourteen families and twenty-one children who participated in family workshops organized by the Educational Environment Plan.
The official unveiling will take place this Saturday, August 15th, at six in the evening, as part of the 30th Giants Gathering. The event will commence at the Citadel of Roses and conclude at the Plaça de les Botxes. The protagonists, carried by the very children and families who created them, will dance to share their debut with the citizens.
This initiative, driven by the Town Hall's Department of Education, aims to promote academic success and social cohesion through educational and community activities. Throughout July, three workshops were held with the collaboration of the Colla Gegantera de Roses and local school AFAs (Parents' Associations). The sessions covered everything from conceptualization and character design to the modeling and painting of the figures.
The involvement of 14 families and 21 children allowed for direct participation in the creative process, transforming the activity into a tool for fostering family engagement in cultural life and transmitting popular culture to new generations.
The selection of the represented elements – the lighthouse, shrimp, sea snail, grapevine, and wild boar – reflects the aim to highlight figures representative of Roses' territory, heritage, and natural and economic environment.
