Spectacular 5-0 victory for Figueres against Can Gibert at Vilatenim

Toni Sanchez's side dominated the Girona derby with a brilliant first-half performance to secure three points.

UE Figueres delivered their best performance of the season this Saturday at Vilatenim, defeating Can Gibert with a resounding 5-0 victory in the local Girona derby.

The team led by Toni Sánchez settled the match in a clinical first half. Albert Genís opened the scoring in the 9th minute, followed quickly by Sicka in the 14th. Leading 2-0, the home side maintained total control over a rival unable to withstand the pressure in Alt Empordà.
Before halftime, Xavi Ferrón added a third in the 36th minute and Santi made it four in the 43rd. Early in the second half, Ferran López, formerly of l'Escala, completed the 'manita' with the fifth goal in the 51st minute.
This win moves Figueres up to a provisional tenth place in the Primera Catalana league. Their next challenge will be next Saturday away at Juventus de Lloret.
