Start of the 2026-2027 school year in Castelló d'Empúries

On September 8th, the 2026-2027 school year kicks off for thousands of children and young people in Castelló d'Empúries, covering early childhood, primary, secondary, baccalaureate, and vocational training.

Today, September 8th, marks the start of the 2026-2027 school year for students in early childhood education, primary, secondary, baccalaureate, and basic vocational training cycles. Subsequently, on September 14th, students in intermediate and higher-level vocational training cycles, as well as the PFI-PTT programs, will begin.
Schedules remain similar to previous years. Early childhood and primary schools will continue with classes from 9 AM to 12:30 PM and from 2:30 PM to 4 PM, with the lunch service operating from 12:30 PM to 2:30 PM. For secondary, baccalaureate, and vocational training, the usual schedule starts from day one; for instance, the Institut de Castelló d'Empúries will operate from 8 AM to 2:30 PM, and the Institut Escola El Bruel-Empuriabrava from 8:05 AM to 2:35 PM.
This academic year, Castelló d'Empúries has two primary schools, an institute-school, an institute offering ESO, baccalaureate, and an Intermediate Vocational Training Cycle in Recreational Boat Maintenance. It also offers a municipal nursery, a municipal music school, a Shared Education Unit (UEC), and two PFI-PTT modalities (sales, office, and customer service assistant; and nursery and garden assistant).
In total, approximately 1900 children and young people are starting the new 2026-2027 school year in the town, covering all the aforementioned educational stages.
The school calendar features Christmas holidays from December 22, 2026, to January 7, 2027, with an intensive schedule on December 21st. Easter holidays will be from March 20 to 29, 2027. Classes will conclude on June 21, 2027, for early childhood, primary, secondary, and first-year baccalaureate students, while special regime education and vocational training will follow their respective academic programs.
Public holidays for the 2026-2027 academic year include September 11th, October 12th, December 7th and 8th, February 1st, 2nd, and 15th, April 30th, and May 3rd.
