Severe gale-force winds hitting the Alt Empordà region this Saturday have caused the collapse of the spherical radar dome at Air Surveillance Station number 4 (EVA 4) in Roses.

The incident occurred as wind speeds topped 100 km/h at Cap de Creus. The 'ball' of Pení, a Cold War relic that has been part of the local skyline since 1960, fell due to the intensity of the Tramuntana storm.
The station remains a vital part of Spain's air defense system. Despite the structural damage to the protective radome, the facility continues its mission of 24/7 airspace monitoring using advanced LANZA 3D long-range radar technology.
