A severe Tramuntana windstorm hitting the Alt Empordà region this Saturday, February 14, has caused the collapse of the spherical radar dome at the Pení military station in Roses.

The damaged structure is part of the Air Surveillance Station number 4 (EVA 4). The famous 'ball' of Pení fell after being unable to withstand wind gusts that significantly exceeded 100 kilometers per hour in the Cap de Creus area.
The loss of the protective cover is visible from various locations across the county, altering a skyline that has been a fixture of the local landscape since the 1960s. The incident occurred during a major weather event affecting northern Catalonia.
The Pení base is a strategic site for airspace monitoring, and its white silhouette was one of the most recognizable landmarks for residents and tourists in the Roses bay area.
