The Meteorological Service of Catalonia recorded wind gusts nearing 170 km/h this Sunday in the Alt Empordà region, leading to emergency alerts across several northern counties and the Pyrenees.

The northern wind, known as 'tramuntana', hit with extreme force on March 15. The Portbou-coll dels Belitres station recorded the highest peak at 164.2 km/h early in the morning, while Darnius-Boadella reached 125.6 km/h.
High-altitude areas were also severely affected. Santuari de Queralt saw winds of 140 km/h, and both Port del Comte and Tosa d'Alp exceeded 120 km/h, confirming a widespread weather event across the northern territory.
Civil Protection issued an ES-Alert on Saturday to mobile phones in Alt Empordà, Berguedà, Ripollès, and northern Cerdanya. Authorities strongly advise against outdoor activities until the storm subsides.
