The director of Asetrans, Jordi Esparraguera, expressed the sector's deep discomfort regarding the blockade, which severely affects the circulation of goods between the Iberian Peninsula and France. Nevertheless, he emphasized that the transport sector supports the core demands of the farmers.
“"We do not understand how a mobilization that, he claims, was unauthorized has been allowed, and we believe that protests should not take place on the road."
Asetrans reported that, thanks to coordination with the Mossos d’Esquadra (Catalan Police) and the implementation of detours, a massive blockade has been avoided, although congestion and operational difficulties are noticeable, especially on long-haul routes and connections with France.
Transporters also directed harsh criticism at the Minister of Agriculture, Òscar Ordeig, for stating that the road closure was authorized. Furthermore, they recalled previous statements where they were blamed for the spread of swine fever, urging the Government to defend their sector as an essential link in the primary supply chain.
Farmers maintain the blockade on trucks on the AP-7 and N-II, although the national road has been reopened to passenger vehicles. Asetrans announced that it is preparing a joint position with all transport employers' associations in Catalonia regarding the continuation of the mobilizations.
