The Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs warned the Donald Trump administration on Thursday to avoid a military incursion into Venezuela, calling it a potential "fatal mistake" with serious global repercussions.

The specter of a United States invasion of Venezuela increasingly worries the international community, both due to the potential violation of sovereignty and the effects on navigation. The warning from Moscow comes after Mexico's president, Claudia Sheinbaum, urged the UN to act to prevent bloodshed in Latin America.

"We hope that the administration of Donald Trump, which is characterized by a rational and pragmatic approach, will not commit a fatal mistake."

Russia, a friendly country to Venezuela, stated that it hopes Washington does not enter into a situation that would have "unpredictable consequences for the entire Western Hemisphere" regarding maritime trade. They also cited the revolutionary leader Simón Bolívar, defending the right of every nation to choose its own rulers.
The warning follows the Trump administration's order on Tuesday for a "complete blockade" of sanctioned oil tankers operating in Venezuela, further tightening pressure against the regime of Nicolás Maduro. This move, interpreted by Caracas as a "grotesque threat," could hinder oil exports, the main driver of the Venezuelan economy.
