An intense wind and snow storm has hit Catalonia, leaving three people injured in Camarasa (Lleida) and causing closures on several roads, with wind gusts exceeding 160 km/h in parts of Alt Empordà.

The north-westerly wind has been the main feature this Sunday in Catalonia, especially between midday and early afternoon. The Catalan Meteorological Service (Meteocat) has described the situation as dangerous for outdoor activities, with gusts reaching 168.5 km/h in Portbou (Alt Empordà), 154.4 km/h at the Queralt sanctuary (Berguedà), and 135.4 km/h in Darnius (Alt Empordà).
In Camarasa (Lleida), three people —a woman and two minors— sustained minor injuries after being struck by a sheet of roofing torn off by the wind at a campsite. All of them have been transferred to the Arnau Vilanova hospital.

"In recent hours, the wind has intensified, reaching 168.5 km/h in Portbou (Alt Empordà), 154.4 km/h at the Queralt Sanctuary (Berguedà), and 135.4 km/h at the Darnius-Boadella Reservoir (Alt Empordà)."

The presence of snow on the roads and fallen trees have forced the closure of four roads in the province of Girona and required the use of snow chains on ten roads in Lleida, as reported by the Catalan Traffic Service (SCT). Among the roads affected by snow are the BV-4024 in Coll de Pal (Girona) and the C-28 in Port de la Bonaigua (Lleida). Fallen trees have led to the closure of the GI-502 in Darnius, the GI-505 in La Vajol, the GIV-5223 in Camprodon, and the GIV-5234 in Beuda (Girona).
Protecció Civil has recommended restricting mobility in six regions: Solsonès, Berguedà, northern Cerdanya, Ripollès, Garrotxa, and Alt Empordà. By midday, nearly 600 calls related to the wind episode had been received, and the Firefighters had responded to over 500 alerts, mostly for fallen objects. Additionally, trains did not operate on the Figueres-Portbou (Girona) and Vic (Barcelona)-Ripoll (Girona) sections until 13:00 due to the meteorological conditions.
