Rail Chaos: Delays of up to one hour on R11 line (Portbou-Barcelona) due to speed restrictions

Speed limitations across the Rodalies network continue to cause disruptions, with 40-minute delays also affecting lines R14, R15, and R16.

The Rodalies and regional train service is experiencing delays of up to one hour on the R11 line between Portbou and Barcelona this Wednesday afternoon due to ongoing speed limitations across the network.

The delays, which have been recurring in recent days, primarily affect the R11 line (connecting the Alt Empordà with Barcelona), where users face waits exceeding one hour. Furthermore, regional lines R14, R15, and R16 are registering 40-minute delays, while the RT2 line accumulates 30 minutes of delay, as confirmed by Renfe.
This situation is a consequence of maintenance work and the speed limitations established at various points on the network. Although lines R11, R16, and R17 are expected to operate by train throughout their entire route, a complementary bus service remains active between Figueres and Portbou. The RG1 line also maintains train circulation between Maçanet-Massanes and Portbou.

"We are working to maintain the announced frequencies of five trains per hour on the R1, two per hour on the R2 south, and four on the R4, and to meet regional schedules as much as possible."

Antonio Carmona · Renfe Spokesperson in Catalonia
In parallel, the R3 line continues with an alternative road service between Fabra i Puig (Barcelona) and Puigcerdà, a measure derived from scheduled track duplication works that have been underway since October. An additional bus service is also offered between Valls and Camp de Tarragona to connect with Mid-Distance services towards Barcelona.
