The Agència Catalana de l’Aigua (ACA) has awarded the contract to draft the project for restoring 2.2 kilometers of the Fluvià River as it passes through Ventalló and Torroella de Fluvià, an area degraded by past aggregate extractions.

The ACA formalized the contract award for the project drafting, valued at 73,600 euros. It is expected that the technical document defining the necessary actions will be completed within ten months. This section of the river is located in the final stretch before its mouth at Sant Pere Pescador.
The planned interventions will focus specifically on the area between the old meander (meandre vell) and the curve known as the Salt del Barat. This environment, which is part of the Natura 2000 Network, is currently channeled and conditioned due to intensive aggregate extractions carried out years ago.
The cessation of this extractive activity led to the creation of natural wetlands occupying the old meander. However, these wetlands currently lack hydrological connection with the main course of the Fluvià River.
The primary goal of the project is to define the measures required to recover the connection between the river terraces and the river itself. This aims to restore the diversity of fluvial habitats expected in the lower section of the Fluvià, thereby enhancing all associated ecosystem services.
