A 78-year-old man, resident of Figueres, died this morning on January 9 in Vila-sacra after suffering a sudden medical indisposition while driving, causing his vehicle to crash into a building.

The incident occurred on Comerç street in Vila-sacra when the driver, operating a van, lost control and impacted the facade of a property. Witnesses immediately alerted the 112 emergency number after seeing the man appeared unconscious.
Emergency services, including the Sistema d’Emergències Mèdiques (SEM), Mossos d’Esquadra, and Bombers de la Generalitat, were dispatched to the scene. Paramedics performed cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) on the man, who had gone into cardiac arrest.
Despite the efforts of the medical personnel, they were unable to save his life. The Mossos d’Esquadra Traffic Unit confirmed that they do not consider the event a traffic accident, but rather an incident caused by a medical emergency suffered by the driver.
