The municipality of Vilamalla, located in the Alt Empordà region, will open the area's Carnival season on Saturday, February 7 with a parade and two costume contests, one for children and one for adults.

The Vilamalla Carnival, known for being the earliest in the area, concentrates its entire program into a single day, Saturday, February 7. The schedule includes the traditional parade (rua) and, as a central element, two costume contests: a new one for the youngest participants and the usual one for adults, with prizes for both individuals and groups (comparsas).
The festivities will begin at five in the afternoon with the Children's Carnival, featuring entertainment by the company Fefe i Cia and the traditional hot chocolate served with biscuits. The main novelty this year is the children's contest, where a jury composed of councillors from Culture, Youth, and Popular Festivals will award the two best costumes.

"The aim is to promote and encourage the creativity of the participants through the prizes."

Laura Felgueras · Councillor for Popular Festivals
The adult celebration will start at nine in the evening at the new school parking lot, where pinchos (snacks) and water will be served. Another novelty this year is the mandatory pre-registration for groups bringing floats, with a deadline two days before the Carnival.
Starting from the new school, the costume parade will head towards the Municipal Pavilion, passing through Girona and Ribes streets and Empordà Avenue. Once at the pavilion, Dj Alegre will be in charge of entertaining the party from eleven at night until three in the morning, with a dedicated Punt Lila (Purple Point).
