The director of the Servei Català de Trànsit (Catalan Traffic Service), Ramon Lamiel, confirmed that the closure of the southbound AP-7 highway near Gelida will last until at least Saturday after the fatal rail accident.

The interruption of the AP-7 motorway heading towards Tarragona, between Martorell and Sant Sadurní d’Anoia, began on Wednesday afternoon following the deadly railway incident in Gelida. The accident occurred after a retaining wall under the AP-7 collapsed due to a landslide, affecting the R4 train line.

"They have proposed that we accompany them to see what the traffic solution might be, if there can be one."

Ramon Lamiel · Director of the Catalan Traffic Service
Lamiel explained that the Catalan Government has been summoned to an inspection of the section affected by the landslide, scheduled for Saturday. During this meeting, potential mobility solutions will be assessed to mitigate the severe traffic issues.

"What was a closure of hours, we said would become a closure of days, and we continue to believe it will be a closure of days."

Southbound traffic on the AP-7 remains completely interrupted since 6:00 PM on Wednesday. Vehicles are being diverted onto alternative routes, causing a significant increase in congestion on secondary roads and local routes in the surrounding area.
