The closure affects a three-and-a-half-kilometer stretch near Gelida, where rehabilitation work on the collapsed slope requires occupying all three southbound lanes. This measure, requested by the Ministry of Transport, was implemented to ensure the safety and effectiveness of the excavation until stable ground is found.
“"The horizon is fifteen days from the start of the closure to complete the work, although rain could delay it."
The director of the Servei Català de Trànsit (SCT), Ramon Lamiel, stressed that the closure is not due to insecurity in the previously reopened lanes, but rather logistical issues related to moving machinery and excavating part of the right lane. Lamiel ruled out the possibility of the northbound direction being affected at any time.
The SCT is diverting traffic onto the A-2 road, recommending it as the main alternative. Other suggested routes include the C-32 (which will be free again), the B-24, and the N-340. If the C-15 is taken, drivers can rejoin the AP-7 at Vilafranca del Penedès.
This situation dates back to the fatal train accident on January 20 in Gelida, when a containment wall from the motorway fell onto a train. Following this incident, the AP-7 was initially closed for safety, although one southbound lane near Martorell was later reopened.
