The Servei Català de Trànsit will fully reopen the closed section of the AP-7 southbound near Gelida at three in the morning on Monday, February 9, two weeks after the fatal railway accident.

Traffic on the motorway had to be halted due to the collapse and subsequent repair of the embankment that caused the fatal accident on the R4 line two weeks ago, in which a trainee driver died. The director of the Servei Català de Trànsit, Ramon Lamiel, confirmed that all three lanes will return to normal thanks to the collaboration with the Ministry of Transport.

"The work has been immense and constant to restore normality in the three circulation lanes."

Currently, workers are finalizing paving and painting tasks in the area, with plans to remove cones and filters overnight. Lamiel justified the reopening time (3:00 AM) as an appropriate “off-peak hour” to manage significant traffic on a 120 km/h speed limit section.
The closure of the AP-7 initially occurred after the Gelida accident, and subsequently, the Ministry of Transport ordered traffic to be halted again due to the disruption caused by the stabilization works on the collapsed embankment. Lamiel highlighted that the current situation is “very singular” in Catalonia, coinciding with the Rodalies chaos and the blockage of goods at the Port de Barcelona.
