The Secretary of State for Transport, José Antonio Santano, announced the news via a post on his X social media account (formerly Twitter), praising the work of Adif operators. These routes have been the most affected points by the mobility crisis in recent weeks, following the collapse of a slope wall in Gelida.
“"if everything goes according to plan, next week will begin with the first signs of normality in the transport system of the Principality."
Santano, who has taken control of the crisis management facing the Generalitat, highlighted the “progress” in repairing the affected areas. His speech was more optimistic than in previous days, especially regarding the AP-7, as until last Thursday he had only placed the reopening of the highway sometime “next week.”
Beyond the immediate repairs, the crisis has served to intensify demands for increased funding for Catalan infrastructure. The Barcelona Chamber of Commerce estimated the necessary investment to revive the railway system at 1 billion euros annually until 2030, a figure that doubles the average investment since the Rodalies Plan came into force in 2020.
Furthermore, various infrastructure specialists have pointed to poor maintenance and lack of resources dedicated to the AP-7 since the State took over its management five years ago, following the end of the concession held by Autopistas – Abertis.
