In the early afternoon on Friday, circulation on the R1 line was interrupted between Maçanet-Massanes and Blanes due to a rock and earth slide. Renfe immediately had to establish an alternative road service for this section, while the service remains operational with two trains per hour between Hospitalet de Llobregat and Blanes.
The service resumption followed a 48-hour suspension caused by the R4 accident in Gelida last Tuesday, which resulted in the death of a trainee driver. Despite an agreement with the drivers' union (Semaf) to conduct extraordinary inspections, the day began with delays of up to 30 minutes on several lines, although normality had been recovered by mid-morning.
“"The trains are operating with relative normality."
The Minister of Territory, Sílvia Paneque, emphasized that trains are operating with “relative normality” and confirmed that alternative services, such as reinforced Ferrocarrils and intercity buses, will be maintained until next Wednesday. Furthermore, the toll exemption on the C-32 highway remains in effect, as does the recommendation to work remotely for this Friday.
Regarding the R4 line, alternative transport remains in place between Sant Vicenç de Calders and Martorell, as the cabin of the train that derailed in Gelida is still pending scrapping. The general secretary of Semaf, Diego Martín, had previously criticized that the government and Renfe announced the resumption without the appropriate safety conditions being met.
