The Minister of Territori, Sílvia Paneque, confirmed today, Wednesday, January 21, 2026, that the Rodalies service across the entire Catalan network remains suspended following the Gelida accident while Adif conducts an exhaustive safety inspection.

The suspension affects all Rodalies, regional, and mid-distance lines, as Adif is carrying out an “exhaustive inspection” of the entire infrastructure. This review began at 2:30 AM using the 'white marches' system, which involves preventive train journeys without passengers to verify track safety.
Minister Paneque justified the decision by stating that the initial criterion remains in place: the “maximum principle of safety” for both users and workers. A new meeting of the CECAT was scheduled for 4:30 PM to re-evaluate the situation and the possible resumption of circulation.

"Until we have safety guarantees for the entire Rodalies system, we will not be able to narrow down the resumption of service."

In parallel, the Minister of Interior, Núria Parlon, confirmed that none of the seriously injured individuals from the R4 accident on Tuesday in Gelida are feared to be in life-threatening condition. The Generalitat has recommended teleworking and consulting alternative transport methods to minimize travel, as entrances to Barcelona experienced severe traffic density issues.
The Government has reinforced interurban public transport with a 10% increase and adopted measures to improve road fluidity, such as lifting the toll barriers on the C-32 in Garraf. The investigation into the incident, led by the Mossos d'Esquadra under the direction of the Vilafranca del Penedès court, points to a possible landslide of the retaining wall due to adverse weather conditions.
