The Consorci Sanitari Alt Penedès-Garraf (CSAPG) has launched two working groups at the CAPI Baix-a-Mar to promote cognitive health, one aimed at individuals with mild cognitive impairment and another focused on prevention.

The first group, for cognitive stimulation, began on October 19 and runs every Monday until November 30. It is designed for adults with mild cognitive impairment (MCI) who are attended at the center. The goal is to maintain and stimulate cognitive abilities, provide tools for autonomy in daily activities, and encourage participants to incorporate these activities into their daily lives.
Mild cognitive impairment can affect memory, attention, or planning, although many individuals maintain their functional autonomy. Cognitive stimulation interventions help preserve cognitive functions, emotional state, and social participation.
Starting October 22, a group for the prevention and promotion of cognitive health will also be launched, held on Thursdays until December 3. This group focuses on healthy habits (diet, rest, emotional health) and tools to stimulate cognitive abilities to prevent deterioration.
The stimulation group works on memory, attention, and other cognitive skills, as well as compensatory strategies such as using calendars, diaries, alarms, or lists to facilitate daily tasks.
The sessions are led by Saray Giménez, an occupational therapist at CSAPG, at the CAPI Baix-a-Mar facilities in Vilanova i la Geltrú. This professional role was added to the center's Primary and Community Care team in 2026 to enhance work on autonomy and functionality.

"There are various strategies that can help us maintain good cognitive health. One of the most important is having a well-established routine. Doing the same activities in the same order contributes to fewer forgetfulness."

Giménez also highlighted the usefulness of memory support tools like diaries and mobile applications as compensatory techniques.
