Ugandan Abel Chebet and Meritxell Soler won the fifteenth edition of the Vilafranca del Penedès 10K race, with Chebet setting a new course record of 29.05.

The fifteenth edition of the Vilafranca 10K lived up to expectations and became the fastest in history. The Ugandan Abel Chebet was the winner, setting a new course record with a time of 29.05, beating the previous mark held by Mohamed El-Ghazouany since 2023 by 13 seconds.
Behind Chebet were his compatriot Eliud Cherop (29.24) and last year's winner, Abde Oukhelfen (29.33). The three athletes were already leading authoritatively at the end of the first lap, but in the second, Chebet increased the pace to cross the finish line solo.
In the women's category, the victory went to Meritxell Soler, who repeated her success from 2024. Soler clocked a time of 33.42, defeating Ugandan Angeline Chelimo (34.48) and Gisela Carrión (35.39).
The race, organized by the Vilafranca del Penedès City Council and Fondistes Penedès, involved over 100 volunteers. The public response was massive, with Vilafranca lining the streets to cheer on the runners, cementing the event as a key athletic fixture in the Catalan calendar.
