The man responsible for the murder of María del Carmen Ortiz has accepted an 18-year and four-month prison sentence for killing and dismembering his partner in Sant Sadurní d'Anoia.

The events took place in November 2021, when Jorge Ignacio Sánchez strangled the 60-year-old victim shortly after moving back into her home. The perpetrator had a history of domestic violence and had previously violated a restraining order. After the murder, he partially burned and dismembered the body, hiding the remains in trash bags.
The Mossos d'Esquadra investigation in Vilafranca del Penedès began months later when the victim's brother, Jorge Ortiz, led police to a container in La Granada del Penedès. He initially claimed he thought the remains belonged to a wild boar, but the discovery confirmed the identity of his sister.

The murderer signed a conformity agreement sentencing him for murder, desecration of a corpse, and breach of sentence.

The victim's brother has also accepted a six-month prison sentence for concealment. Both men are required to pay 10,000 euros in compensation to each of the victim's two daughters.
