The Sabadell City Council called for a minute of silence at Plaça Sant Roc this Wednesday at noon to remember the two fatal victims of the recent floods and the tragic railway accident in Gelida.

The ceremony, held at 12:15 p.m. in front of the council building, gathered political representatives, Municipal Police agents, and numerous citizens. This marks the second time Sabadell has held a minute of silence this week, following the commemoration of the railway accident in Adamuz (Córdoba) on Monday.
Attendees stood in silence amidst the usual downtown hustle to remember the two people who lost their lives on Tuesday. One victim was swept away by the river inside their car in Palau-Sator (related to Storm Harry), and the other died due to the train derailment in Gelida (Alt Penedès) caused by a retaining wall collapse.
The fatal victim in Gelida was a 28-year-old man from Seville who was completing his training as a Rodalies train driver. At the time of the incident, he was in the cabin with the primary driver.

"The possibility for the driver to avoid the collision was null. It is a tragedy that has to do with meteorological conditions."

Meanwhile, Alfons Martínez, territorial head of the Medical Emergency System (SEM) in the southern metropolitan region, confirmed that a total of 40 people were attended to following the accident. Of these, five suffered serious injuries, five less serious, and thirty minor ones. The Mossos d’Esquadra have taken charge of the investigation to determine the exact causes of the incident.
