One person died and fifteen were injured on Tuesday night in Gelida (Alt Penedès) when an R4 commuter train collided with a retaining wall that had fallen onto the track.

The accident occurred shortly after 9:00 PM on Tuesday between the stations of Gelida and Sant Sadurní d'Anoia, at railway kilometer point 64. The fatality was an occupant of the driver's cabin on the train traveling between Manresa and Sant Vicenç de Calders.
Emergency teams quickly mobilized 20 ambulances and 38 units of the Bombers de la Generalitat (Firefighters) with 65 personnel to assist the injured, at least three of whom are in serious condition. The collision forced the interruption of train service between the affected stations.

"There would be four or five serious injuries."

According to Adif, the wall collapsed due to the heavy rainstorm that affected Catalonia throughout the day. The incident, which generated 28 calls to the 112 emergency number, activated the Ferrocat plan by Protecció Civil. Government officials, including Ministers Núria Parlon (Interior) and Sílvia Paneque (Territory), traveled to the site.
This marked the third incident on the Rodalies network that day. Earlier, R4 service had been cut between Manresa and Terrassa due to a pine tree falling in Viladecavalls, and an RG1 train struck a rock between Blanes and Maçanet.
