The Rodalies de Catalunya service was completely suspended on Wednesday after Adif halted the network to verify infrastructure safety following two accidents, including the fatal one in Gelida.

The suspension was decreed after a train on the R4 line collided with a collapsed wall in Gelida (Alt Penedès), causing one death and 37 injuries, five of which were serious. Shortly before, another derailment had occurred on the RG1 line, between Blanes and Maçanet, without injuries, after hitting a rock.

"The most feasible hypothesis is the collapse of the wall due to the rains, but we must wait to see how the investigations progress."

Sílvia Paneque · Minister of Territory
The Minister of Territory, Sílvia Paneque, confirmed overnight that the service would not resume until Adif verified the integrity of the infrastructure in a meeting scheduled for 09:30 AM. This total halt will remain in place until the “safety” of the entire network is confirmed following Storm Harry.
Renfe has recommended users utilize alternative means of transport, such as FGC services or the metro, as the interurban bus network cannot fully replace the Rodalies service. High-speed rail operates normally, although there are sections, such as the one between Barcelona and Madrid, where speed is temporarily reduced.
