The decision, announced by SCT Director Ramon Lamiel, had only taken effect on Wednesday with the aim of facilitating the mobility of interurban coaches and alternative Renfe services, especially those on the R-4 line (interrupted between Martorell and Sant Sadurní d'Anoia) and the E6 (connecting Vilafranca del Penedès with Barcelona).
The right lane was properly signposted and segregated, with a speed limit of 90 km/h, ending at the Gelida train station. However, on Wednesday afternoon, two passenger transport vehicles failed to respect the limitations and accessed the point where the construction work is taking place.
Traffic has decided to suspend the measure to guarantee both the safety of the work and circulation on the rest of the highway.
This infringement forced the Catalan Traffic Service to reverse the measure starting early Thursday, cutting off the AP-7 again to all southbound vehicles in the affected section. The decision was communicated to the Directorate of Mobility of the Department of Territory and the Federation of Passenger Transport Companies.
Despite the setback, the forecast is that the AP-7 can reopen to general circulation next Monday, which is why repair work in the affected area is being intensified.
