The parents of little David, who died a year ago in Ordal (Subirats) after a goalpost fell on him, channeled their grief by creating the David Smile Association to promote humanitarian projects in Tanzania.

The anniversary of the 3-year-old boy's death was marked on January 14. In his memory, his parents, Susanna Mañé and Antoni Gallart, and his brother, organized an emotional tribute at the Ordal sports court, gathering nearly 300 people. During the event, a 3.5 x 2 meter mural, painted by Alfons Méndez, was unveiled, and a star was placed in his memory.

"The NGO's goal is to keep David's essence alive, so that his smile can continue to shine on the faces of other boys and girls."

The association's first project focuses on an orphanage-school located in the Lake Eyasi area, in the Karatu province of Tanzania. This center, founded by Deodata of the Tupendade Children Foundation, houses 30 orphaned children and enrolls 110 daily students in an area with no other public school within a 40-kilometer radius.
The David Smile Association initially provided food support and will now invest the 7,800 euros raised in building a school. The final goal is to reach 25,000 euros by March, which will allow for the construction of four classrooms, the provision of school materials, and the creation of a self-sufficient farm, in addition to sewing and mechanical workshops to teach trades to the children.
