The Sant Martí Sarroca City Council has filed a formal complaint with the Mossos d'Esquadra police force following a wave of sabotage and personal threats against the mayor linked to the new waste management model.

The transition to a more efficient recycling system in the Alt Penedès region has faced violent resistance in Sant Martí Sarroca. Climate Action Councilor Josep Ramon Raurell confirmed that the attacks escalated from graffiti on information posters to damaging the locking mechanisms of the new containers.

"We have the impression that it is a single person who has taken the application of the new waste collection system as a personal offense."

In contrast, neighboring towns like les Cabanyes and Puigdàlber have successfully implemented the system this week. In les Cabanyes, Mayor Agustí Vallverdú reported that 95% of residents already use the electronic key fobs, leading to a decrease in littering and antisocial behavior.
