Vilafranca absorbs dangerous goods truck traffic due to AP-7 closure

The prohibition on using the Garraf tunnels forces heavy vehicles to detour via the C-15 and N-340, concentrating traffic in the Alt Penedès region.

Since this Wednesday, Vilafranca del Penedès has been absorbing a significant volume of dangerous goods truck traffic following the closure of the AP-7 highway between Martorell and Sant Sadurní d'Anoia.

This situation arises because trucks carrying hazardous materials are prohibited from circulating inside the Garraf tunnels. Consequently, they cannot use the C-32 alternative, which has already seen an 85% increase in its usual traffic volume in just 24 hours.
The Servei Català de Trànsit (SCT) has recommended an alternative route for these heavy goods vehicles. The suggested itinerary is to use the A-2, continue along the C-15 to Vilafranca, and then rejoin the AP-7.
This mandatory diversion concentrates the flow of heavy traffic around the capital of Alt Penedès. This leads to a further increase in truck circulation on the N-340 road and specifically at the Vilafranca-Sud access point to the AP-7 motorway.
