Students from three secondary schools in Vilafranca del Penedès participated this February in cleaning and recovery tasks for the Llitrà and Adoberia streams, which were damaged by last summer's storms.

The Eugeni d'Ors, Alt Penedès, and Vilafranca 2 institutes joined forces with ADF La Carrerada and the Vilafranca Town Council. The main goal is to reverse the damage caused by the heavy rainfall on July 12, which left sediments and debris along several river sections.
The work focused on removing invasive giant reed (canya americana) and manual waste collection. These actions aim to improve the streams' ecological functionality, reduce flood risks, and promote local biodiversity in the Alt Penedès region.
Through Service Learning projects, the students also helped plant native riverside species. This new vegetation belt will act as a natural buffer to mitigate the impact of future floods and create a more resilient ecosystem.
