Meeting between authorities and residents to discuss security issues in a small municipality in Alt Penedès.

The Les Cabanyes City Council and local residents will meet tomorrow with the territorial director of the Interior Ministry and the Mossos d'Esquadra to address the wave of robberies affecting 15 homes since December.

Since December, the trickle of attempted and successful home burglaries in Les Cabanyes has increased, culminating in January with 15 reported incidents. Concern has escalated due to the methodology used by the criminals, who in some cases accessed homes while the occupants were inside.

"The concern is maximum, historical."

Agustí Vallverdú · Mayor of Les Cabanyes
The emergency meeting will take place with the director of territorial services for the Interior Ministry and Public Security in the Penedès region, Lourdes Sànchez, and representatives of the Mossos d’Esquadra. Mayor Agustí Vallverdú noted that the proximity to Vilafranca and major circulation axes, such as the N-340, the AP7 motorway, and the C-15, is a major handicap for the municipality, facilitating the thieves' access and escape.

"Our proximity to Vilafranca makes us feel vulnerable."

Agustí Vallverdú · Mayor of Les Cabanyes
This ease of access has caused the wave of robberies to spread to neighboring municipalities like Vilobí and Guardiola de Font-rubí. Faced with the situation, residents have begun to self-organize to remain vigilant. Although the City Council has video surveillance cameras and license plate readers, the robberies have continued. The Mossos d’Esquadra, who have already identified two individuals under investigation, have recommended prudence in citizen participation and leaving intervention in the hands of the police force.
