The Business Confederation of Road Transport of Catalonia (CETCAT) has demanded immediate solutions and greater investment from administrations following the southbound AP-7 closure, affecting the key section between Martorell and Sant Sadurní d'Anoia since Wednesday.

The closure of the AP-7 highway began on Wednesday afternoon due to the risk of collapse detected in a bridge, which was affected by a landslide. This incident is directly related to the R4 train accident in Gelida, which occurred on Tuesday and resulted in one fatality and five serious injuries.

"We are talking about economic sectors that have been demanding more expansion of the AP-7, the Fourth Beltway, and alternative routes for many years. We believe that mobility and infrastructure are insufficient."

Eduard Ayach · President of CETCAT
The president of the Business Confederation of Road Transport of Catalonia (CETCAT), Eduard Ayach, pointed out that the alternative routes to the highway are “insufficient” to absorb freight traffic. The sector regrets suffering “yet another closure” and demands speed in the repair work, noting that the AP-7 has been closed seven days so far this year, generating “evident” damage to the sector.
CETCAT, which has not yet calculated the total economic damage, has asked institutions “to do their job well” and reminds them that they are the main sector affected by these incidents. Ayach celebrated, however, that the possibility of closing the AP-7 in both directions was dismissed, as this would have caused a “monumental collapse.”
