Workers at the Uniland cement plant in Santa Margarida i els Monjos began a partial strike on Thursday, featuring four-hour stoppages per shift, demanding salary equalization for 25 colleagues.

Workers at the Uniland cement plant in Santa Margarida i els Monjos began partial stoppages this Thursday, gathering in front of the main entrance. The protest, which involves four-hour stoppages during each shift, is scheduled to continue until December 30.
The works council demands that the 25 employees who joined the company after 2016 receive the same salary conditions as the rest of the staff. This demand follows the failure of the final mediation attempt last Wednesday, which involved the intervention of the Generalitat de Catalunya.

"The company does not want to consolidate the salary of these workers, and yesterday, Wednesday, after weeks of collective bargaining, the last mediation attempt with the intervention of the Generalitat failed."

Felip Borlado also denounced the “abusive” minimum services decreed by the company’s management. Furthermore, the union points out that managers are performing tasks that are not assigned to them in order to ensure production targets are met during the strike.
The unions interpret the refusal to consolidate the salaries of the 25 employees as a long-term strategy aimed at lowering the working conditions for all future workers who may join the plant in the Alt Penedès region.
